Duroxite® plate is a chromium carbide plate produced by welding a wear-resistant metallurgical overlay onto a ductile steel base plate. The chemical composition includes 25% to 40% chromium and 3% to 5.5% carbon. This particular combination results in a dense microstructure of primary M7C3 carbides. Surface hardness up to 62 HRC. This chromium carbide overlay plate is intended to resist heavy abrasive wear from sand, dirt and other materials. It works in high-heat industrial environments up to 350°C without losing its mechanical properties.
One feature of these chromium carbide overlay plates is the uniform wear resistance. This resistance remains the same from the surface down to 75% depth of the cladding. The face is hard, but the mild steel backing means the material can be rolled, cold-formed, or plasma-cut for different uses. It is often welded directly onto heavy equipment in the field. Stress-relief cracks naturally occur during the cladding process. These cracks do not penetrate the base steel. This helps the chromium carbide wear plates maintain structural integrity when they face high impact during operations.
